2002 Conn Creek Napa Valley Anthology For a printable version click here Tasting Notes The pinnacle wine of Conn Creek, Anthology is an expressive, complex blend of Napa Valley’s finest Cabernet, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. The 2002 blend exudes explosive fruit aromas and flavors with vanilla oak nuances. This is a robust wine balanced with silky tannins. The Vineyards A near flawless 2002 growing season, with cool temperatures and periodic heat spikes, resulted in fruit with vibrant flavors and bright natural acidity. The growing conditions produced ripe, well-balanced, aromatic and flavorful fruit. Sourced from premier Napa Valley vineyards producing the region’s finest Bordeaux varietals: Principal Napa Valley Vineyard Sources: Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards: Collins, Surber & Herrick Cabernet Franc vineyards: Carpenter Merlot vineyards: Collins and Stagecoach Petit Verdot & Malbec vineyards: Herrick The Winemaking Vineyard lots were vinified and aged separately with only the best barrels from each lot being selected for the final blend. The wine is a blend of nearly 24 separate vineyard lots. Barrel aged for 28 months in equal parts new and one-year-old French oak. Fining with egg white before bottling softened the tannins to produce the supple character that Anthology is known for, while maintaining good structure for aging. Aged for an additional 12 months in the bottle prior to its release.
